On Friday (Sept. 3) at 8:30 p.m. police were called to Garibaldi Highlands Elementary School for a disturbance and located a group of eight youths, two of whom were arrested as they were obviously intoxicated and unable to care for themselves.
The two 15-year-old youths were returned to the detachment, both of them vomited in the police cars on the way to the detachment.
One youth was released to the care of a parent and the other youth was transported to hospital from cells as he continued vomiting, this youth was treated and hospital and released to the parents. Both youths received violation tickets for being intoxicated in public.
Police officers driving these vehicles were appreciative when one of the youths and parent showed up the following morning so the young man could take responsibility to clean up his mess from the previous evening.
Stolen vehicle torched
On Monday (Sept. 6) at 2:28 p.m., police responded to a vehicle fire at Anderson Beach. A 2004 GMC Sierra pick up was found to be on fire and near a treed area of the beach. The vehicle was later reported stolen by the owner. The matter is still under investigation.
Drunk driver charged
On Sunday (Sept. 5) at 2:09 a.m. a member on patrol observed a vehicle being operated without taillights on Centennial Way. The vehicle was followed and the driver was unable to maintain a constant speed or maintain the vehicle within its lane.
The vehicle was stopped and the 32-year-old driver displayed symptoms of impairment and failed a roadside screening for alcohol.
The driver was returned to the detachment and readings over three times the legal limit were obtained. The driver was later released on a promise to appear to attend court on Nov. 3 to answer to a charge of impaired driving.
Another drunk driver charged
On Sunday (Sept. 5) at 1:10 a.m., a member on patrol observed an erratic driver on Highway 99. The 2003 Ford Ranger pick up was stopped at Glenalder Place and the 44-year-old driver displayed symptoms of impairment. The driver was returned to the office and two readings over three times the legal limit were obtained.
The driver was later released to appear in court in North Vancouver and answer to a charge of impaired driving.
Daredevil biker crashes
On Friday (Sept. 3) at 7:42 p.m. police were advised that B.C. Ambulance were responding to an injured motorcyclist at Highway 99 and Industrial Way.
Investigation revealed that a 60-year-old motorcyclist had intentionally pulled a wheelie and lost control, flipping over. The biker suffered a broken arm and severe road rash and was issued a violation ticket for driving without due care and attention.
Drunk driver nearly crashes
On Friday (Sept. 3) at 4:42 a.m., police returned to Alice Lake for a disturbance call. On the first attendance police issued a warning and upon returning noticed a participant had driven his vehicle a short distance and nearly went off the road.
A 23-year-old male was returned to the detachment and breath readings twice the legal limit were obtained. The male was later released on a promise to appear and will answer to a charge of impaired driving on Oct. 27 in Provincial Court.
Injured biker leg's amputated
Sept. 2 at 4:40 p.m. police fire and ambulance attended to a motor vehicle collision on Highway 99 at Cheekye River Bridge north of Alice Lake.
A 39-year-old motorcyclist was travelling south on Highway 99 when he crossed over the centre line and struck a U-Haul truck and then a U-Haul trailer.
The motorcyclist was airlifted to Vancouver General Hospital with severe injuries and had to have his leg amputated as a result of the collision.
Highway 99 was closed to traffic for about an hour and a half.
The matter is still under investigation.
