A new WorkBC Employment Services Centre opened in downtown Squamish this week, aiming to serve British Columbians eligible to work in Canada and seeking employment.
The centre, which opened its doors on Monday (April 2) at the location of the previous employment centre (No. 101, 38026 Second Ave.), "will integrate all services currently offered through a single door and make it easier to help people find work and provide stability for their families," officials with Training Innovations, a B.C.-based career development company, said in a statement.
The centre, an initiative of the B.C. Ministry of Social Development, is being operated by Training Innovations in partnership with local agencies such as Sea to Sky Community Services, the Howe Sound Women's Centre Society, Community Futures of Howe Sound and the Squamish Nation.
"All service providers will deliver the full suite of employment services to citizens and will determine the best way to meet the needs of specialized populations," said Minister of Social Development Stephanie Cadieux. "The new WorkBC Employment Services Centre in Squamish will provide quick and easy access to anyone looking for work in the area."
In late spring, the centre will move to the new office building that's under construction at 37989 Cleveland Ave., a company official said.
