Enjoy some Music in the Evening

The Music in the Evening concert at the Squamish Baptist Church tonight (March 4) at 8 p.m.

The Music in the Evening concert at the Squamish Baptist Church tonight (March 4) at 8 p.m. will bring together an array of talent from the youngest, eight-year-old pianist Joy Keeler, teenagers Michael Mee and Jennifer Galloway to those with many years of performing.

Organizers and performers Veronica McPhee and Patrick McCrum said this concert is the perfect setting to showcase the talents of our community. Tickets can be purchased at the door at $10 for adults and $5 for children.



Each year on the first Friday in March, the World Day of Prayer worship service is held. This year in Squamish the Church on 99 (Word of Life) is hosting this service in St. John's Anglican Church (behind the Sea to Sky Hotel) tonight (March 4) at 7:30 p.m.

The theme is "Let Our Light Shine" and was prepared by the women of Poland. The country with a population of 83 million, is the ninth largest country in Europe. A warm invitation is extended to all and following the service, refreshments will be served.



The Cabane à Sucre Maple Syrup Festival is once again being sponsored by Ecole Les Aiglons, the francophone school operated out of Garibaldi Highlands Elementary School. It will be held tomorrow (March 5) from 12 noon to 4 p.m. in the Brennan Park Recreation Centre auditorium. The afternoon includes a traditional brunch from 12 to 1 p.m. with advance tickets at $6 and at the door, $7.50. There will be entertainment including some good old French fiddling music, games, raffles, prizes, silent auction and maple syrup off the snow.



Doin' it for a Song promises to be a great evening of entertainment at the Brackendale Art Gallery this Sunday (March 6) at 8 p.m. Headlining the show is MC Norm Foote along with Jim Byrnes, Roy (Bim) Forbes, Bruce Greenwood, Babe Gurr and Squamish's own The Iacovones.

Tickets are available at Mostly Books and the BAG for $20 each.



The date for the Squamish Food Bank's monthly distribution is Wednesday (March 9) from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Trinity Hall at Squamish United Church on Fourth Avenue.



The Western Canada Society to Access Justice is partnering with the Howe Sound Women's Centre to create a free legal clinic for low-income women. The opening day is Thursday (March 10) from 1 to 3 p.m. Other dates open for appointments are March 31, April 7 and April 14. Please call the HSWC at 604-892-5748 to book an appointment.

The consultation sessions are for low income women with civil and family law issues.



International Women's Day will be celebrated with the grand opening of the Howe Sound Women's Centre's free legal clinic.

There is a potluck lunch and open house from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Tuesday (March 8). The ribbon-cutting ceremony with Coun. Sonja Lebans will be at 12:30 p.m. The location of the HSWC is 38116 Loggers Lane.



The Big Brothers/Sisters of Squamish is ready to roll for the annual Bowl for Millions fundraiser. The Garibaldi Lanes are filling up with teams but there are still spaces available. The dates are Friday, March 11 and Saturday, March 12 and lots of space available for Friday, March 18. Gather your team together and call Wendy Brown at 604-815-3298 to register and to get your pledge sheets.



The U15 Boys soccer team is flying o Manchester, England on April 21 to May 1. the team is busy fundraising and a garage sale is planned at St. John's Anglican Church on Saturday, March 12 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Donations for this sale would be much appreciated and the contact person is Joan Cubbon at 604-898-3579.



Following the Teen Book Club meeting on March 15 from 6:15 to 7:15 p.m., there will be a meeting of the Teen Advisory Group from 7:15 to 8 p.m. The group will discuss an upcoming Harry Potter event in the summer to coincide with the launch of the new book. It is hoped reliable teens who can help plan and host this event for children in the library will be recruited. Once again, the Howe Sound Performing Arts Association is pleased to present master impressionist and "super dork" Charles Ross in concert at the Eagle Eye Community Theatre on Friday, March 11 at 8 p.m. and on Saturday, March 12 at 2 p.m. If you are a Lord of the Rings fan you will want to see this show.

Tickets at $20 for adults, $15 for seniors and $10 for children and students are available at Mostly Books, Billie's Bouquet and Highland Video.



The next meeting for the Creative Connections for Seniors will be held in the Tantalus Senior's Centre on Monday (March 7) from 10 a.m. to 12 noon. Guest speaker Sonja Lebans will give an update on seniors centre or centres!



A Knack to Knit & Crochet session will be held at the Squamish Public Library on Sunday (March 6) from 1 to 4 p.m. If you need supplies, please pre-register with Susan at 604-892-3110.



The Hearts in Motion Walking Club will meet at the main entrance to the Brennan Park Recreation Centre on Friday (March 11) at 10 a.m. For more information, please call Elaine at 604-898-9498.



Rehearsals are under way for the annual youth festival of short plays for the whole family. The dates are March 17 and 18 at the Eagle Eye Theatre. Tickets at $8 for adults and $6 for students and seniors are available at Mostly Books and Highland Video.



The Grassroots Jam at the Brackendale Art Gallery is usually held on the first Sunday of each month but, for this month only, it will be held tonight (March 4) from 7:30 to 10 p.m. Everyone is welcome.



The Cedar Valley School is holding a garage sale tomorrow (March 5) from 9 a.m. to 12 noon at the school, St. John's Anglican Church at 1930 Diamond Road. There will be lots of great buys.
