Environment Canada issues weather alert for Squamish area

Agency warns of heat and smoke in Howe Sound

Summer isn't going out without a fight — temperatures are expected to hit a high of 33 C today. As of noon, it's 27 C.

Environment Canada has issued weather alerts that are warning of heat and smoke in the Squamish area.

Daytime temperatures are expected to be five to 10 degrees above the seasonal norm through Friday, the agency says.

You can blame our neighbours to the south for this.

The weather agency says that an upper ridge of high pressure is drawing warm air from the United States.

It's a good idea to stay hydrated and schedule physical activity during cooler parts of the day, Environment Canada says.

On top of the heat, the smoky skies alert is still in effect.

Wildfire smoke from the United States continues to affect much of southern B.C.

People with respiratory problems or conditions are advised to be careful during this time.
