Explosion rocks Dentville

A number of people called 911 at just before 7 p.m. on Friday (Feb. 4) to report they heard and felt an explosion in the area of Howe Sound Secondary School.

A number of people called 911 at just before 7 p.m. on Friday (Feb. 4) to report they heard and felt an explosion in the area of Howe Sound Secondary School.

People in the school were worried a portion of the school was bombed and the explosion was heard and felt as far away as North Yards and Finch Drive.

Cpl. Dave Ritchie said after some investigating a cavity was found in the road behind the Youth Centre near Howe Sound Secondary. The hole was created by some kind of explosive.

Ritchie said there was a great deal of activity around the area after the explosion but no suspects were identified.

RCMP experts were brought from Vancouver the next day to take soil samples and to gather evidence to be used to determine what caused the explosion.
