Explosives stolen from university site

Const. Nicole Silbernagel said explosives and the accessories to cause an explosion, like detonator cord, were stolen from a construction shed at some point over the weekend.

The RCMP is investigating. Anyone with information about the missing explosives is asked to call the Squamish RCMP or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.

Assault victim suffers broken arm

An assault at the Timbertown Trailer Park on Monday (Jan. 31) left a 51-year-old man with a broken arm.

It is alleged that a 34-year-old Squamish man hit the victim with an axe handle. The suspect was arrested and held until the next afternoon when he was released without being charged, said Cpl. Dave Ritchie.

The police investigation into the matter continues.

Man arrested at car dealership

Following a string of unsolved vehicle break-ins at local car dealerships, a 32-year-old Squamish man was arrested at Sea to Sky Ford early in the morning on Sunday (Jan. 30).

An Eagle View Security staff member noticed suspicious activity at the dealership just after 4 a.m. and called the RCMP.

The police stopped the suspect while at least one other accomplice escaped.

The man police caught is now facing charges of mischief and possessing break-in tools. He is scheduled to make an appearance in court on March 16.

According to Sea to Sky Ford, there have been numerous incidents where thieves broke into vehicles on the sales lot and stole the stereos.

Driver pleads guilty in major crash

The man who crashed a red 2001 sports car at Garibaldi Way and Hwy. 99 last June decided to plead guilty to charges laid against him following the dramatic crash.

Joseph Padularosa, 21, of Coquitlam was charged after the car he was driving southbound from Whistler hit two of the raised traffic islands at Garibaldi Way then hit a traffic light control box and came to rest a large sign post. Before the vehicle came to rest one of the three passengers in the car was ejected out the front window and thrown 40 metres across the Burger King parking lot.

Padularosa entered his guilty plea Jan. 25 and is scheduled to attend court in North Vancouver for a pre-sentence hearing on June 29.

Crash causes propane leak

A 36-year-old man was given a ticket for driving without a valid driver's licence on Sunday (Jan. 30) after he hit a propane pump at the Husky station downtown.

Squamish Fire Rescue attended the scene along with Terasen Gas to deal with the propane leak resulting from the collision.

Alcohol suspected in rollover accident

A 28-year-old man is facing impaired driving charges after the vehicle he was driving went off Hwy. 99 just south of the Daisy Lake Dam.

The incident happened at 12:45 a.m. on Tuesday (Feb. 1). The occupants of the vehicle suffered minor injuries.

The accused is scheduled to make a court appearance on April 6.
