Extra Foods strike still on hold

Employees represented by the United Food and Commerical Workers Union at the local grocery store have heard unofficially that employer Westfair Foods is willing to sit down and negotiate the union's contract demands equaling a recent Park Royal Extra

Employees represented by the United Food and Commerical Workers Union at the local grocery store have heard unofficially that employer Westfair Foods is willing to sit down and negotiate the union's contract demands equaling a recent Park Royal Extra Foods settlement but as of Thursday (Nov. 2), store workers, who voted 95 per cent last week in favour of picketing, still had no definitive information.

If the union decides to call a strike, employees would have to give 72 hours notice before picketing the store. In the meantime, the union has called off information pickets that saw off-duty workers distribute leaflets to potential customers as they approached the store's entrance.
