After seeing posts on social media from concerned parents, a man has contacted the Squamish RCMP to say he is the person who asked a boy to help find his dog on Brackendale Fair Ground trail yesterday afternoon.

The boy immediately ran away and told his parents, who then informed the police. After seeing a description of the incident in a Facebook group, the man called police to say he really had lost his dog in the Brackendale Fair Ground area. It was running around and would not return. He also asked another child who stayed and helped.

“After seeing the posts online, the man wanted to set aside any worries from the community that there was an unknown man trying to lure children. His identity was checked and confirmed to not have any negative police records,” said Staff Sgt. Jolaine Percival.

“The police have followed up with the school involved and all the peoples’ versions of events that took place are factual.”

The case in now closed.
