One person is dead following a multi-vehicle afternoon crash between Squamish and Whistler on Sunday.

The collision happened just north of Squamish near Black Tusk on Highway 99.

When Squamish RCMP arrived, one person was dead on the scene, according to a police news release Sunday afternoon.

Highway 99 was closed for a couple of hours in both directions while police investigated and then opened to single-lane traffic.

"While getting the highway back open is a top priority for police, the over-riding priority is to gather evidence in a manner that is safe and allows for a thorough investigation," said Insp. Dale Carr, of the Lower Mainland District RCMP.  "Our commitment is to get traffic flowing as soon as possible."

Further information may be released tomorrow, according to the RCMP.
