The validated results of the election in the West Vancouver-Sunshine Coast-Sea to Sky Country riding are in.
On Oct. 24, Elections Canada officials released the confirmed number of votes for each candidate. While 65,315 ballots were cast, 335 were rejected.
The riding results show the Liberal's Patrick Weiler, the MP elect, had 22,673 votes. The Conservative candidate Gabrielle Loren totaled 17,359 votes, with the Green's Dana Taylor coming in third with 14,579. Judith Wilson of the NDP took home 9,027 votes. Robert Doug Bebb earned 1,010 votes, while Gordon Jeffrey of the Rhinoceros Party had 173, and Independent Terry Grimwood had 159.
The poll-by-poll breakdown reveals how many votes each candidate received from specific locations within the riding.
In Squamish, 7,868 people voted on Election Day, although 49 votes were rejected. Based on Squamish votes alone (not including advance votes), Weiler still came out on top with 2,589 votes. Taylor was a close second with 2,284 votes. Wilson came in third at 1,431. Loren earned 1,348 votes from Squamish. Meanwhile, Bebb tallied in at 126. A close finish for last place was Jeffrey with 21, beating out Grimwood (20) by one vote.
The advance polls — which don't show location — put Weiler in the lead early on in the election. Throughout the riding, 19,475 people voted in the advance polls (88 ballots were spoiled). Weiler had 6,848 votes, beating out the next closest candidate, Loren who had 5,755. In advance polls, Taylor was third with 4,251. Wilson tallied 2,150. Bebb had 295 votes, while Jeffrey earned 46 and Grimwood took 32.
