'Find my phone' app leads to device's return

Weekly briefs from the Squamish RCMP

Squamish RCMP got some help from an electronic phone-finding application to return a smartphone to its rightful owner.

On Saturday (Feb. 22), a Squamish woman reported the theft of her purse from inside the Cliffside Pub, Squamish RCMP S/Sgt. Brian Cumming wrote in a statement.

Using the woman's "find my iPhone" application, police tracked the phone to a home in an unspecified location. Those at the residence denied any knowledge of the phone's or purse's whereabouts, but the phone was heard ringing inside the home when RCMP members called it, Cumming said.

The suspects returned the phone, still claiming ignorance. Police are reviewing surveillance video from the pub as part of their investigation.
