Put that fire out.
On Thursday, July 17, the District of Squamish announced an open fire ban within the municipality.
“Backyard campfire permits are suspended until further notice,” the notice stated.
Continuing hot and dry conditions raised the fire hazard, prompting the ban to reduce the risk of human-caused wildfires. The restriction follows Coastal Fire Centre Wildfire Management Branch’s open burning prohibition for all BC Parks, crown lands and private lands outside of areas covered by the local fire prevention bylaw.
The ban applies to all open fires, campfires, wood-burning pits and backyard fireplaces on public and private lands, including residences within the district boundaries.
“This ban does not restrict the use of gas propane-fuelled stoves manufactured for heating or cooking,” the notice stated.
As of Friday, July 18, there was a ban on open fires throughout B.C.
