Fire Rescue seeks help in nabbing arsonist

Squamish Fire Rescue is asking the community to be on the lookout for an arsonist causing property damage for the last month. The latest fires occurred Friday (March 28) at 6:41 a.m. when the culprit or culprits set fire to a dump truck parked at the corner of Hunter Place and Loggers Lane.A 1984 blue Mack Dump Truck was heavily damaged after being set on fire. Two people of interest were seen near the scene.On Wednesday (March 26) at 8:45 p.m., police and fire department attended to a possible arson complaint were a cardboard recycling container located on Progress Way was set on fire. The fire was extinguished and shortly afterward, members on patrol located a traffic pylon on Queensway Avenue on fire. A 15-year-old male was located in the vicinity and taken into custody for investigation. The investigation continues. There have been several fires set to dumpsters, portable toilets, or "blue rooms," and recycling bins over the last month, said firefighter Bob Fulton. "Whether they're related or not - I don't know." Fulton asked that anyone spotting any suspicious activity call fire investigators at the Fire Rescue office, 604 898-9666. Man charged for threats and weapons On March 27 at 9:45 p.m., police received a report of a road rage incident involving a 2006 red Chevrolet Silverado pick up truck and a 2007 Black Hummer H2 SUV. The two vehicles became involved in driving over curbs, driving on wrong sides of the roadway and disobeying traffic lights and signs after an altercation near the TD Bank. The vehicles drove onto Highway 99 and then back onto Cleveland Avenue, intentionally ramming each other while driving in a reckless and dangerous fashion. Police located the truck near the Chieftain Hotel, and the Hummer was located on Fifth Avenue. A 31-year-old male and 22-year-old female were arrested in the Hummer. A 38-year-old male was detained from the pick up. As a result of the investigation, 31-year-old Gurbinder Singh Toor was taken into custody charged with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and uttering threats, possessing prohibited weapon without a licence and possession for trafficking. Toor appeared in North Vancouver Provincial Court on the charges April 1, and has been remanded in custody to Oct. 6. Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed this incidents or parts of this incident to contact Squamish Police or Crime Stoppers. Drugs and weapon seizedOn March 26 at 3:55 a.m., a 2007 gray Dodge Charger was stopped on Highway 99 near Finch Drive. Police recovered one kilogram of cocaine and a prohibited weapon, a set of Blast Knuckles, capable of emitting electric volts. The 31-year-old male driver was arrested and later released ond charges of drug and prohibited weapon possession.
