First heat wave of the season to hit Squamish

There's no denying that summer's here, as Environment Canada has released a special weather statement saying that the first heat wave of the season has begun.

“Sunny skies and very warm air are on tap for the next several days as a strong ridge of high pressure envelopes British Columbia,” reads the statement.

“Temperatures away from the coast will reach the low thirties today and Tuesday, which is about 10 degrees above averages for the middle of June.”

Indeed, the high for today, (June 18), is anticipated to hit 33 C at around 5 p.m.

Warm are is expected to stick around until Wednesday, the agency says, while some cooling will happen on Thursday.
