Five potential COVID-19 exposures in Squamish schools were announced over the weekend.

Sea to Sky School District spokesperson Jennifer Morris said that four of those potential exposures were at Howe Sound Secondary, while one of them was at Garibaldi Highlands Elementary.

"This means that individuals have acquired COVID-19 from outside of the school environment and, given that they have been at the school, there may have been some individuals exposed," reads a letter circulated to parents from Howe Sound.

"Those individuals are always notified separately and a plan is put in place, often to have them self-isolate. The [Vancouver Coastal Health] assessments of each case so far indicate that these exposures are not connected and are more likely a reflection of the current level of COVID-19 virus in the province."

A separate letter from the school district said that contact tracing will be occurring.
