Work similar to what is shown here will be conducted in Squamish by FortisBC in the coming weeks.

Beginning this week, FortisBC will be carrying out geotechnical investigations in Squamish related to the Eagle Mountain-Woodfibre Gas Pipeline Project.

What the company describes as "early investigative work" will be conducted on private land at the BC Rail property and the Woodfibre LNG site.

"This will help us collect information to plan the pipeline tunnel underneath the Squamish Estuary, though no work will occur within the wildlife management area," said Trevor Wales, FortisBC corporate communications advisor for major projects, in an email to The Chief.

FortisBC is notifying nearby residents and businesses of the work.

Crews will be working for approximately three weeks during daytime hours, with noise levels remaining within bylaw standards, Wales said.

"As we continue our detailed design and engineering planning throughout 2019, we anticipate that more geotechnical investigations will be required," he said.

Updates can be found at FortisBC’s Talking Energy website as they become available.
