Two words most Squamish drivers don't want to see paired are "freezing" and "rain" but unfortunately Environment Canada has issued a freezing rain warning for the Sea to Sky region. (Thursday, Jan. 4)
From Squamish to Whistler, an ice build-up due to freezing rain is expected or occurring.
The Environment Canada alert states that warm, moist air from an approaching Pacific frontal system will begin to move over a shallow surface layer of arctic air late Thursday.
Periods of freezing rain are forecasted to develop late this afternoon for Whistler and Pemberton and will continue through tonight and Friday morning.
The temperature is expected to rise above the freezing mark near noon Friday.
Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots will become icy, slippery and hazardous.
Ice build-up may cause tree branches to break.
