Gang members removed from local hotel

Police show about 20 people the exit after responding to New Year's overdose

Members of the Integrated Gang Task Force helped evict about 20 members of a Lower Mainland gang from a Squamish hotel after midnight on New Year's Day, Squamish RCMP said this week.

On Saturday (Jan. 1) at 1:43 a.m., Squamish RCMP and B.C. Ambulance personnel responded to a reported drug overdose at the Sea to Sky Hotel, RCMP Cpl. Dave Ritchie said in a statement.

They found that a 22-year-old man had overdosed on methamphetimines. As well, police recognized several members of a Lower Mainland gang, Ritchie said. Hotel staff members said they were unaware that the guests were associated with a gang and asked for help in evicting them, Ritchie said.

Several officers from the Integrated Gang Task Force helped Squamish RCMP officers remove the gang members "who were no longer welcome at the hotel," Ritchie said.

The condition of the drug overdose victim was unknown.
