A new, up-and-coming restaurant chain is coming to Squamish to operate at Garibaldi Springs Golf Resort.
Rockwell's Bar & Grill, a restaurant chain with ties to the better-known Pantry Family Restaurants, will operate in the 110-unit hotel once the facility is completed.
Sid Brickman of Garibaldi Springs said one of the joint venture partners on the Garibaldi Springs project owns a hotel in Vancouver and knows people in the Pantry organization. That connection combined with a desire by the restaurant operators to locate in the Sea to Sky corridor led to the agreement to put a Rockwell's in the hotel.
"This is going to be a bit of a flagship for them," said Brickman.
The restaurant is a large one at 371 square metres (4,000 square feet) and an outdoor patio.
Brickman said the staff will be sizeable, as the restaurant will provide all of the food and beverage services for the golf resort.
According to Brickman, the high ceiling, restaurant space will feature a wall of windows with roll up doors that can be opened on sunny days.
There are currently two operating Rockwell's. One is located in the Aston Pacific Inn Resort and Conference Centre and the other is at the Best Western Coquitlam Inn and Convention Centre.
A fourth Rockwell's is under construction at the Super 8 Hotel in Dawson Creek.Rockwell's bills itself as a steakhouse that also offers pasta, seafood and stir-fry.
"It is on the same class as Earls, maybe a step above and one of their specialties is prime rib," Brickman said. "The food is really, really good. They are very particular about how their food is prepared and they have a very good menu."
The restaurant company is marketing its new outlet as being "on the Whistler Sea to Sky Highway Corridor".
Rockwell's larger sister company, the Pantry, has operated since 1975 and currently has 26 outlets across the provinc.
