Get out and explore during the Olympic break

Evans Lake day camp offers one- or two-week programs in winter wonderland

With kids out of school and families needing to work, adventure-loving kids hoping to spend their Olympic break with fun and excitement can attend the Evans Lake Forest Education Centre winter day camp.

The camp runs Feb. 15 to Feb. 26, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays and is geared towards youth between the ages of eight and 13 who want to have a good time and learn new skills, like building winter shelters.

Camp program director Conor Lorimer said campers will enjoy a winter wonderland while hiking, exploring the surrounding forest, playing sports and creating arts and crafts.

"We're just ready to have a really good time with whoever's up at camp, that particular day and the things that they're interested in," he said.

Evans Lake is located about 15 kilometres north of town, which makes for a unique experience.

"We're in the middle of this awesome demonstration forest near a lake so there's so many places to go findWe know that we have a really cool site for people to come to."

Organizers are also accepting applications from young volunteers, between the ages of 15 and 17, who want to spend their winter break getting some fun workplace experience.

With a focus on making everyone's experience the best it can be, Evans Lake is a wonderful place for campers and volunteers alike to make new friends, said Lorimer.

"We're all so open and welcoming to new people, because at one point we were all new people as well," Lorimer said.

Campers will get picked up at one of four pick up location around town including at Brennan Park, Squamish Elementary School, Brackendale Elementary School and Mamquam Elementary School.

Each week long session can accommodate up to 80 participants and registration is first come, first served.

"There's two different sessions, but you can sign up for the first week, the second week or both weeks."

One week costs $225 taxes included, or $400 including taxes, for two weeks.
