Curves in Squamish has donated 2,789 pounds to the local Food Bank and the president of the community organization is calling the contribution, "amazing."

The workout facility and fitness program outfit generated the food in its eighth annual food drive and new member promotion.

"We are coming into a dry time," said Squamish Food Bank Society, president Joan Forry. "So it is very much appreciated."

Curves waved its normal service fee between February 27 and March 11 for any new member who brought in a bag of non-perishable groceries and joined the program.

"The Curves Food Drive promotion is always exciting," said Jodene Blain, the owner of the Squamish club. "We have a chance to help so many people at a time when the food banks are lowest, while we assist more women in reaching their fitness and weight loss goals. It's a win-win situation for everyone, and we're very proud to participate."

Forry was pleased with the amount sent in by Curves, saying it was twice as much as the year before.

"A lot of people in Squamish put in a good effort, but this is amazing," she said.

Other people wanting to donate to the Squamish Food Bank Society can drop off food at either Save On Foods, I.G.A. or Extra Foods in Squamish or by adding $2 to their grocery bill at either store Save On Foods or I.G.A. The organization also accepts monetary donations.
