The names are officially in. Squamish has 26 people slated to run for city hall in the Nov. 19 municipal election three bidding for the mayor's seat and 23 to fill the six council chairs.

Those seeking to be the next Squamish mayor include current Coun. Rob Kirkham and newcomers Auli Parviainen and Ron Bahm.

The Squamish council candidates include incumbents Bryan Raiser, Patricia Heintzman and Doug Race as well as Susan Chapelle, Uffe Hansen, Debra McBride, Peter Kent, Douglas Neville, Balvinder Biring, Rob Weys, Nate Dolha, Ron Sander, Larry McLennan, Mike Jenson, Eric Andersen, Chris Wallace, Sarah Braebrook, Jeff Cooke, Phil Audet, Ted Prior, Geoff Dyer, Brad Hodge and Terrill Patterson.

Laura Godfrey was the only local candidate to win by acclamation on Friday (Oct. 14). She won the right to represent Area D including Britannia Beach, Furry Creek, Ring Creek, the upper Squamish and Paradise valleys and Pinecrest/Black Tusk on the Sea to Sky School District's board of trustees. Four candidates are seeking to fill Squamish's two seats on the board incumbents Andrea Beaubien and Rick Price and newcomers Bianca Peters and Alice Guss.

Five people, meanwhile, are vying for the right to represent Area D on the Squamish-Lillooet Regional District board. Lisa Ames, who is just finishing a three-year term on Village of Pemberton council but now lives in Squamish, is among the five seeking to fill the seat being vacated by three-term board member John Turner. Britannia Beach resident Maurice Freitag, who for the past several months has served as Squamish Chamber of Commerce president, also is in the running, as are McBride, Nancy Hamilton and Bruce Bessie.
