Two recent GoFundMe campaigns hope to lend a helping hand to people in the Sea to Sky Corridor.

The first will go to support the family of Lisa Korthals, a 49-year-old mother and wife who died after an avalanche buried her in the mountains near Pemberton.

Friends and family of Korthals told The Pique that Korthals was a longtime ski guide and realtor with Re/Max Sea to Sky who has lived in the Whistler and Pemberton area for over 25 years.

A GoFundMe campaign was started in hopes of providing financial assistance to Johnny Foon Chilton and their young son Tye.

Canadians have shown their support for this family, helping to raise more than $1,300 in less than one day, a GoFundMe representative said in a news release.

As of Wednesday afternoon, the initiative has raised more than $3,500 within 23 hours.

The second crowdfunding campaign is going to fight cancer.

It’s an initiative spearheaded by Reece Wallace, a professional mountain biker who’s lived in the Sea to Sky Corridor.

Wallace is trying to raise cash for the Western Canada Ocular Oncology Fund. All proceeds will go directly towards improving patient care.

More than $4,100 was raised in 12 days as of Wednesday afternoon.
