Government Road traffic to be discussed

District of Squamish engineering staff will be in attendance at a meeting tonight (Thursday, April 4) to discuss public perceptions about traffic along Government Road.

District of Squamish engineering staff will be in attendance at a meeting tonight (Thursday, April 4) to discuss public perceptions about traffic along Government Road.

The meeting, organized by the district and the Brackendale Owners and Tenants' Association (BOATA), takes place at 7 p.m. in the foyer of Brackendale Elementary School.

"The engineering department has recently received several specific requests for certain changes to current roadway configurations," stated an online meeting notice. "District staff would like to hear from more community members regarding their experience, perceptions, and thoughts as they pertain to traffic related activities throughout Brackendale."

Last fall, a local woman died and a man suffered serious injuries in a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Depot and Government roads. Afterward, residents raised concerns about the configuration of the intersection, with some suggesting the need for traffic-pattern changes there. The district deployed traffic counters in an effort to determine the best course of action.
