The Howe Sound Secondary School's class of 2006 is aiming to raise more than $16,000 to celebrate graduation in June.

The main graduation fundraising initiative is the annual Grad Compost Sale. Grade 12 students are now canvassing the community selling soil products generated by Carney's Organic Recycling (COR).

Three soil products are being made available to the grads by COR: Soil Amendment, Garden Blend and Top Dressing.

Soil orders can be placed through Connections Answering Services by calling 604-815-4038.

The cost per bag is $5 and orders of five bags are being sold for $20. Pickup truckloads (one to 1.5 yards) can be purchased for $100.

Money raised by the grads will be spent on the festivities planned for this June.

"Our goal is to raise more than $16,000 and surpass last year's grad fundraising," said Grade 12 student Jorge Madrigal, who is one of the organizers of the compost sale.

"It is for our grad events. Money that is left over from the fundraising that we do not use will be left and passed on to next year's grads."
