Handgun seized from vehicle

Angler from Lower Mainland charged

Local conservation officers last week seized a handgun from inside a vehicle being driven by a man near the Mamquam Forest Service Road.

Sgt. Chris Doyle of the B.C. Conservation Officer Service said the incident is still under investigation and that "no specific issues of public safety" arose as a result of the seizure, which occurred last Wednesday (May 4).

He said conservation officers have received several complaints about persons discharging firearms in no-shooting areas and leaving litter behind over the past couple of weeks.

Angler charged

Conservation officers also charged an angler from the Lower Mainland for catching and retaining fish over and above the daily quota. The incident occurred at Browning Lake in Murrin Provincial Park, Doyle said.

With the weather warming up, conservation authorities are reminding citizens to phone the B.C. government's 24-hour, seven-day-per-week RAPP line at 1-877-952-7277 (RAPP) with information about suspected illegal hunting, fishing and environmental activities.
