Squamish SAR will co-ordinate a public search if missing teen not found today

First responders sweeping Garibaldi Highlands and Quest area for Richie Stelmack.

**Please note, tragically, Richie Stelmack was found deceased on Sept. 25.

Squamish Search and Rescue will be co-ordinating a public search tomorrow if Richie Stelmack, a missing Squamish teen, is not found today.

Anyone who wishes to help with the search is asked to meet at 10 a.m. tomorrow, Sept. 24, at the Quest University field.

SAR says to arrive on time, dress for the weather and terrain, and bring a mask. Coffee and a snack will be provided but bring your own lunch and water bottle.

Rescuers ask that pets be left at home. Professional dog teams are being deployed to search and so it is important to avoid potential contamination that other dogs are not on the scene. Children under 18 years of age should also not be brought to the search.

Officers are also asking people to check their trail cameras, surveillance videos or dashcams to see if any may lead to information on Stelmack's whereabouts.

"We are asking anyone who is in the community of Squamish, not just the Highlands, to take a look into your backyard, garages, sheds, treehouses, playgrounds, wooded areas, shorelines, and any other area Richie could have gone," said Sgt. Sascha Banks in a news release on Sept. 23.

In the meantime, first responders are still combing the Quest University and Garibaldi Highlands area for the missing teen.

RCMP, Squamish Fire Rescue and Squamish Search and Rescue are urging residents to search their yards, sheds and garages and notify police if they see any sign of the 15-year-old.

Call 604-892-6100 or 911 immediately if you know of Stelmack's whereabouts.

They are also requesting any video surveillance footage folks in the area may have.

Police were alerted on Sept. 22 that the boy was not at home that morning in the 40000-block of The Crescent in the Garibaldi Highlands.

His last known location was at home in bed on Sept. 21 at about 10 p.m.

This is out of character for the teen, and his family are concerned for his wellbeing.

He has brown hair and eyes. He's 5 foot, 5 inches tall and weighs about 100 pounds.

He was last seen wearing brown plaid pyjama pants and a long sleeve red shirt with "RVCA" on the front.
