Cross-country skiing in Whistler. Those looking for ski or snowshoe rentals at Whistler Olympic Park will now need to reserve their rental equipment online prior to their visit.

To absolutely no one’s surprise, Whistler Olympic Park has been a popular place to visit and spend some time outdoors this holiday season.

In response to that increased demand, the Whistler Sport Legacies-operated venue has decided to put a new process in place when it comes to equipment rentals.

Visitors looking to rent classic cross-country skis, skate skis, snowshoes, or ski chariots for children will now need to book a reservation for those rentals before arriving at the park. This new measure began on Boxing Day and will be in place until Sunday, Jan. 3, at least.

Guests will need to reserve their rentals by 11:59 p.m. the day prior to their visit. Rentals will no longer be able to be reserved or purchased on the day of a visit.

Amidst the continued COVID-19 pandemic, “This is to ensure safe operations in our rental shop in the busy holiday season,” explained a spokesperson for Whistler Sport Legacies in a statement.

When making a reservation for rentals, guests will have a choice between three, two-hour timeslots that will be made available each day. Guests will then be able to visit Whistler Olympic Park’s Rental Shop during their preferred time slot to pick up their rentals. A limited number of spots will be available in each two-hour time block.

However, rentals do not have to be returned by the end of that timeslot, meaning guests can feel free to use the equipment until the park’s regular closing time.

Though this new reservation requirement is only intended to be in place until Jan. 3, staff said it could be further utilized during other busy periods throughout the rest of the winter season.

Whistler Olympic Park is open daily through the holidays for cross country skiing, snowshoeing and biathlon, with lessons also available daily.
