It is looking like heavy rain on New Year's Eve in Squamish is going to wash away 2019.
Environment Canada has issued a rainfall warning for the south coast, including Squamish.
The alert was issued early Tuesday morning, Dec. 31.
A frontal system is set to deliver 40 to 60 mm of liquid sunshine today and tonight.
[The most rainfall Squamish has seen on Dec. 31 — according to Environment Canada records for between 1982 and 1990 — was 41.8 mm in 1989.]
Flooding is possible in low-lying areas, so watch for possible washouts near rivers, creeks and culverts, according to Environment Canada.
"Rain will ease over most areas this evening but will continue over the central and eastern Fraser Valley through tonight," the warning reads.
Rain or showers are expected all week in Squamish with temperatures ranging from 1C to 5C Tuesday through Friday.
It would be smart to check drainage around your house to prevent basement flooding.

The first of a series of strong frontal systems will spread moderate to heavy precipitation into #SeatoSky this morning, rain heavy at times along the coast. Freezing levels rising to near 1800m as the front lifts over the area this afternoon. pic.twitter.com/jxdErwXwzG

Driving
ICBC offers the following tips to avoid hydroplaning — losing control of your vehicle after hitting a layer of water on the road:
Slow down. The higher your speed, the greater your chances of hydroplaning.
If hydroplaning happens, don’t brake — decelerate and drive straight.
Check Drivebc.ca for current conditions before you head out on the highway.
