On Wednesday Oct. 20, the vice principal of Howe Sound Secondary contacted the RCMP school liaison officer to report a 15-year-old student was caught with drugs. The student admitted to selling drugs and packaged marijuana was located on his person. The student was suspended.
Drunk cabbie arrested
On Tuesday (Oct. 26) at 11:49 p.m., a member on patrol observed a Yellow Cab failing to stop for a red light on Cleveland Avenue. The vehicle was stopped and the driver had a strong odour of liquor on his breath. He denied drinking any alcohol to the officer. A roadside screening for alcohol was administered. The 49-year-old driver registered a fail and was arrested for impaired driving. The driver was issued an Immediate 90-day roadside prohibition and the vehicle was impounded for 30 days.
Drug dealer stopped
On Tuesday Oct. 19 at 4 p.m., a member on patrol stopped a 2009 Toyota Matrix for speeding on Highway 99 near Turpin Creek. While talking with the 25-year-old male driver of the rental car, the police officer smelled a strong odour of marijuana emitting from the vehicle.
A search of the vehicle located a quantity of marijuana and drug paraphernalia associated with growing and selling marijuana. The male was out on recognizance of bail and was not to be in possession of any controlled substances or drug paraphernalia.
The male was arrested and later released to appear in court on Dec. 15 to face charges of breach of his recognizance and possession of controlled substances for the purpose of trafficking.
Suspicious man arrested
On Wednesday Oct. 20 at 5:50 a.m., an alert citizen reported a suspicious male near a business on Production Way. A patrolling member stopped a blue 1995 Dodge pick up truck matching the description of the suspect vehicle. The 28-year-old male driver was found in possession of several Jerry cans of gas, stolen property and drugs.
He was arrested and later released on a promise to appear in court on Dec. 15 to answer to charges of possession of stolen property, theft under and possession of a controlled substance.
The stolen goods are believed to be related to a recent rash of thefts from autos that occurred in area of Garibaldi Highlands.
Car crashes into rock face
On Sunday (Oct. 24) at 5:38 p.m., emergency crews attended a single vehicle collision on Highway 99 at Brunswick Creek. A Chevy Malibu travelling northbound in the fast lane lost control and spun off of the highway into a rock face. The driver and passenger were treated by BC Ambulance personnel and the driver was issued with a violation ticket.
Store broken into
On Wednesday Oct. 20, the Garibaldi Tire Store owner reported suspect(s) broke into the business overnight. The front door glass was removed and four Toyota LT truck tires were stolen. A forensic identity member retrieved fingerprints from the glass.
ICBC targetted
On Sunday (Oct. 24), an employee called to report that the ICBC Claim Center on Progress Way was broken into overnight. Suspect(s) smashed a window into the staff room and stole a 46-inch Samsung flat screen TV.
