Squamish RCMP are investigating a hit-and-run collision that occurred on the weekend near downtown Squamish.
On Saturday (March 30) at 4:20 p.m., a vehicle stopped in the left turn lane at Highway 99 and Cleveland Avenue was rear-ended by a black Chevrolet Cavalier, RCMP Staff Sgt. Brian Cumming wrote in a statement.
The occupants of the vehicle that was rear-ended got out to speak to the driver of the Cavalier, but the driver of the suspect vehicle departed westbound on Cleveland Avenue and was not located, Cumming wrote. A driver who witnessed the collision snapped a photo of the suspect vehicle, which had licence plates from a different vehicle belonging to driver from Port Alberni. Police are investigating the matter.
Appeal issued
Sea to Sky Traffic Services officers are asking that motorists please slow down and make room when they pass police cars that have violators pulled over on the shoulder of the road. Speeding past parked police vehicles at close range is a safety hazard for all involved, Cumming said.

On Saturday (March 30) at 1:15 a.m., police helped Squamish Fire Rescue (SFR) personnel evacuate a burning building on Read Crescent. No one was injured and the cause of the blaze is under investigation, Cumming said. Attempts to reach SFR for further details were unsuccessful.

On Thursday (March 28) at around 10:30 p.m., police stopped a vehicle that had no brake lights and found the driver exhibiting signs of impairment, resulting in an investigation and impoundment of the vehicle. The driver had no valid driver's licence and was the subject of unendorsed warrants from Kelowna, Cumming said.
Scooter taken
On Sunday (March 31) at 1:54 p.m., police received a report that an electric scooter had been stolen from in front of a home in the 1800 block of Cedar Drive the previous night. The scooter had been left in front of the house, locked, at the home on March 30, police said.
