Holiday weekend quieter than expected

Briefs

It wasn't as busy as the RCMP expected last weekend, the long weekend that marks the start of the warm season. Cpl. Dave Ritchie of the Squamish RCMP said the only incident worth noting was the arrest of a 25-year old man at 2:05 a.m. Sunday (May 22).

The suspect was arrested because police believe the man was trying to sell cocaine.

The suspect is scheduled to make a first court appearance July 13.

Hwy. 99 update

No delays of over 5 minutes are anticipated Monday (May 30) because of U.S. Memorial Day.

Travellers are asked to allow an extra 30 minutes' travel time between Horseshoe Bay and Squamish Tuesday through noon Friday, and to watch for traffic pattern changes. Please note that 50 km/h speed zones remain in effect around the clock.

ClarificationIn the article headlined "Teen knifed at party" on page 1 of the May 13 edition of The Chief it was reported the knife incident happened May 6 at a home on Westway Avenue.

The RCMP confirmed this week that the incident did not happen at the home but actually took place on Westway well away from the home where the party took place.
