So long as the assistant superintendent is happy with it, Howe Sound Secondary’s dry grad has the approval of the Sea to Sky school board.

On Nov. 14, the board voted in favour of endorsing the event, provided assistant Supt. Chris Nicholson is satisfied with the preparations made by the Howe Sound Secondary 2019 Prom Committee.

Trustees had questions about security and enforcing a zero-tolerance policy for alcohol and drugs, but in the end felt they were addressed adequately.

Trustees advised that organizers make sure parents volunteering at the event refrain from having any drinks.

There was also discussion about the possibility of hiring a private security company to assist, in case parents feel uncomfortable enforcing the rules of the event.

Howe Sound’s dry grad has been a long-running annual event in Squamish.
