A 56-year-old woman and 46-year-old man are facing various charges in relation to an incident that occurred on Sunday (Feb. 24) near downtown Squamish.
At around 2 p.m., police responded to a report of a possible impaired driver near a hardware store on Hunter Place, heading toward downtown Squamish, RCMP Sgt. Wayne Pride wrote in a statement.
Police located the vehicle on Victoria Street near Fifth Avenue. The driver, a woman, showed signs of impairment by either drugs or alcohol and was arrested. Drug paraphernalia was found in her possession, Pride said.
A male passenger in the vehicle became belligerent and threatening toward a police officer. He resisted arrest and even tried to run away before being physically subdued by the officer. He is being charged with obstruction and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose as he was found with an ice pick and a knife, Pride said.
Man arrested
On Saturday (Feb. 23) at around 5 a.m., police responded to a report of a suspicious man in the 1400 block of Pemberton Avenue. He was reported to have been leaving a parkade carrying some unknown items, Pride said.
Police also located a two-way radio and a knife, which police believe may have been used in an unsuccessful attempt to break into a locked door leading to the parkade. Nearby, police located a man described as "a prolific property thief" on a bike. The 24-year-old was found in possession of some break-in tools. As he was under court-ordered conditions not to possess such tools, he is facing a charge of breach of conditions.
No stolen items were found in the man's possession. However, a further search of the area resulted in the discovery of a red bag containing items that are being examined for fingerprints, as are the radio and knife, Pride said.
Mischief probed
Last Tuesday (Feb. 19), police received a report of a rock having been thrown through the a front window of a business in the 38000 block of Second Avenue. Grafitti was also left on the rear walls of the building. The incident had occurred the previous Wednesday night. Nothing was stolen, and no entry to the business was gained, Pride said.
Assault probed
Last Wednesday (Feb. 20), police attended a home in the 38000 block of Sixth Avenue in response to a report of an assault having occurred there earlier in the day. A 50-year-old North Vancouver man was arrested for allegedly assaulting the 14-year-old son of his girlfriend after a verbal dispute escalated. The 32-year-old stepmother is also under investigation on potential assault charges, Pride said.
Router stolen
On Friday (Feb. 22), police received a report of a break and enter having occurred overnight at a sales presentation centre in the 1000 block of Finch Drive. A lock on the main door had been drilled out and a Netcomm Smart Hub 4G wireless router was stolen.
Three arrested
Three Squamish men are facing a charge of mischief after an incident at a put in the 40000 block of Government Road. On Monday (Feb. 25) at 9 p.m., police responded to a report of four drunken, belligerent males who had left the pub but had caused damage to two vehicles belonging to other males that were parked in the pub's lot.
Three Squamish men aged 30, 32 and 3t6 were arrested and lodged in police cells until sober. Video surveillance is being examined and mischief charges are being pursued, Pride said.
