Indoor playground coming to Brennan Park

Open house on DOS Parks and Recreation Master Plan planned this fall

Brennan Park Recreation Centre got a boost last week. The Sea to Sky Highway Investment Limited Partnership (SSHILP) donated $1,000 toward the District of Squamish's rec centre improvements. The money will be used to purchase indoor play equipment.

In the next 12 months, the facility is being upgraded to meet the changing needs of the community, municipal officials said in a statement. The district anticipates changes to the centre and new pilot programs to enhance client satisfaction and increase visitation, officials said.

The municipality is grateful for the donated money to beef up the 34-year-old centre's lobby, which will include an indoor playground, Mayor Rob Kirkham said.

"Recreation services is committed to providing all visitors to the centre with an excellent experience at all of the spectacular indoor and outdoor facilities available in our community and the revitalization will help ensure this," he said.

The district is working on its Parks and Recreation Master Plan, a document that will help guide the future of recreational activities in Squamish. An initial draft will be presented at an open house this fall, with a final draft presented to council in November.
