RCMP Insp. Norm McPhail, who has been posted in the Sea to Sky Corridor on three separate occasions over the past 20 years, is leaving the area to take a posting in Victoria.
McPhail, who currently commands the RCMP's Sea to Sky Regional Police Service, which he helped create, will become the RCMP's liaison officer to the provincial government ministries as part of the Criminal Justice Reform Secretariat, Sgt. Steve Wright said in a statement issued on Tuesday (April 15). He will assume his new duties on June 15, Wright said.
In addition to his new duties, McPhail plans to undertake studies toward a graduate degree in Organizational Conflict Analysis and Management at Royal Roads University.
Before taking over the leadership of the Sea to Sky Regional Police Service, McPhail was head of the RCMP's Whistler-Pemberton detachment. He is the only RCMP officer to have been posted in Whistler on three separate occasions.
Wright said officials with the RCMP's Lower Mainland division plan to consult with local government officials in the process of choosing McPhail's replacement as head of the corridor police service. A new commander should be named "in the coming weeks," he said.
