It is going to get cold, Squamish

Temperatures dip to between -5 to -10 this week
weather alert

Starting Tuesday, it is set to be a cold and blustery week in communities around Howe Sound, according to Environment Canada.

The chill will begin Tuesday and by Wednesday night, Arctic air will reach the coast. Temperatures will dip below the freezing mark for most coastal communities, including Squamish.

The Arctic air will deepen throughout the week, leading to  -5°C  to -10°C  temperatures.

People working and spending time outside — and those attending the Santa Parade on Saturday — are reminded to dress warmly and in layers, preferably with a wind-resistant outer layer.

Environment Canada also suggests travellers add winter emergency kits to their vehicles which include a blanket, extra clothes and boots.

Historically, temperatures have dipped to an extreme (for Squamish in November) low of -15.8°C in 1985.

Environment Canada records date from 1982 to 2018.
