It’s about to get even hotter in Squamish.
Daytime temperatures that peaked above 30 degrees yesterday, will likely climb by another degree or two today, according to Environment Canada.
In addition, today wind is expected to carry in wildfire smoke from Washington State and B.C.’s Interior, causing Vancouver Coastal Health to put out a Smoky Skies Bulletin for Whistler, which says to consider avoiding strenuous outdoor activities. The bulletin may be extended to Squamish this evening or tomorrow morning. Since smoke blocks sunlight and can significantly lower daytime highs, the concentration of wildfire smoke may determines whether temperature records are broken.
The hot weather is expected to last until at least Wednesday.
If you are experiencing any of the following symptoms, Vancouver Coastal Health recommends contacting your doctor: difficulty in breathing, chest pain or discomfort, and sudden onset of cough or irritation of airways. Exposure is particularly a concern for infants, the elderly and those who have underlying medical conditions such as diabetes, and lung or heart disease.
