Squamish RCMP last week arrested a man they found selling jackets in downtown Squamish on possible charges of possession stolen property and drug possession.
Last Tuesday (Jan. 29) at around 3:50 p.m., an officer saw a 30-year-old Squamish man described as "well known to local police" apparently trying to sell jackets from a bag on Pemberton Avenue near Fourth Avenue, RCMP Sgt. Wayne Pride wrote in a statement.
The jackets appeared to be new and in fact, still had the retail tags attached, Pride wrote. The officer approached the man and confirmed that the Arc'teryx Gore-Tex jackets had, in fact, been stolen from a shop in the 40000 block of Glenalder Place.
The man was arrested for possession of stolen property and, after "a quantity" of methamphetamine was found in his possession, was booked for a controlled substance. The stolen jackets' value was approximately $1,300, Pride wrote.
Two arrested for breaching probation
Local RCMP made two separate arrests of men suspected of having breached the conditions of their probation on Tuesday (Feb. 5).
At around 2 p.m., police located a 31-year-old Squamish man at a hotel in the 38000 block of Third Avenue. As a result of a prior charge against him, the man was under court order not to be in the Squamish area and was arrested for breaching his probation. A quantity of methamphetimine and some drug paraphernalia were found in the room as well, as was a 35-year-old woman, who is facing a drug possession charge.
Thirty minutes later, police responded to a report of a man in possible medical distress at the same hotel in downtown Squamish. When officers arrived the man appeared to be fine, but was found in possession of a quantity of methamphetamine and a butterfly knife, a prohibited weapon. The 30-year-old Squamish man faces a charge of breach of probation as well as drug- and weapons-related offences.
Business entered
On Friday (Feb. 1), police received a report of a break and enter at a business in the 1100 block of Industrial Way at around 2:30 a.m. Access to the fenced compound was gained by digging under the fence line. Some hydraulic hoses were cut and items piled up with the apparent intent to steal them, but it appeared that an alarm had scared away the suspect empty-handed. Police are examining surveillance video in their efforts to find a suspect.
Bike recovered
On Sunday (Feb. 2) at around 4 p.m., police responded to a report of a suspicious person in the area of Bowen Avenue and Magee Street. Officers located a man near Tim Hortons on Industrial way and Finch Drive. A 58-year-old Squamish man is being investigated for possession of stolen property as the bike he was riding matched the description of one recently stolen and reported to police. The bike was seized at the scene, Pride said.
