The Make A Wish Foundation is looking for help in locating a new tent trailer to fulfil the wish of Squamish youngster Jasmine Blake.
The foundation, which grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions, is looking for leads on a trailer that will allow Blake, who has just started Grade 1 at Brackendale Elementary School, to spend more time outdoors with her family.
I guess she's a really outdoorsy kind of girl and loves to be outside camping, swimming and such, said Kim Heron, director of communications with the Make A Wish Foundation of B.C. and Yukon. That's her first choice is for a tent trailer, so that's what we're trying to make happen.
Blake, who suddenly became gravely ill this past spring, has had a brain tumour removed but is still undergoing regular treatments for her illness at B.C. Children's Hospital. Her father, Rick Blake, said Jasmine has shown steady improvement and is able to attend school, but still suffers from some issues, including occasional short-term memory loss.
Jasmine and her family including brother Finn and parents Lisa and Rick love going to camp at Birkenhead Lake Provincial Park in the summer, Rick Blake said.
Disneyland is fantastic, but while they always push that, and it did appeal to her, she's not into the Mattel lifestyle and when they mentioned all the different possibilities, this is the one she kept coming back to, he said.
Said Heron, We're always wanting to grant a wish within a year of receiving it. This camping season is coming to a close, but if we could secure something for next summer, that would be great.
