Squamish RCMP are investigating a possible connection between three separate home break-ins that involved the theft of jewelry that were reported to police during the past week.
Last Thursday (Oct. 25), police received a report of a break-and-enter at a home in the 38000 block of Westway Avenue, possibly having occurred sometime between Sept. 10 and Oct. 13, RCMP Sgt. Wayne Pride wrote in an email.
Although there were no obvious signs of forced entry, a substantial amount of jewelry was report missing, with an estimated value of around $5,000, Pride said.
On Saturday (Oct. 27), police were informed of a break-in at a home on Zenith Road in Brackendale that resulted in the theft of jewelry from a box in a bedroom, possibly during the past week. Police were awaiting information on the type of jewelry stolen and its value.
Police then received another report on Monday (Oct. 29), this time at a residence in the 2400 block of Mamquam Road, that occurred between 6:50 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. A garage door was forced open to gain entry. The home had been rummaged through and jewelry and medicine stolen. A pearl necklace, a $1,200 engagement ring, diamond earrings, two gold chains and a pendant were taken. The estimated total value of the stolen jewelry is around $8,000.
Phone stolen
On Friday (Oct. 26), police received a report of a vehicle having been broken into in the Shannon Falls parking lot. A driver's-side window was smashed and a blue purse, a brown wallet and a white iPhone were stolen.
Skids lifted
On Friday, police received a report that 12 to 15 wooden skids had been taken from the Wal-Mart lot. A man described as a balding Caucasian wearing a red T-shirt and driving a yellow Hyundai forklift was last seen with the skids on board, heading toward Discovery Way. The driver had made his escape by the time police arrived, Pride said. The skis were valued at around $100 each. The investigation is ongoing.
Vehicles damaged
On Saturday, police received a report of three pickup trucks having been broken into while parked at a dealership on Hunter Place. The vehicles had their windows broken to gain entry between Friday at 8 p.m. and Saturday at 8 a.m. Police are awaiting information about possible stolen items.
Theft, drug charges likely
On Saturday (Oct. 27), police checked a 32-year-old Squamish man described as well known to them in the area of Highway 99 and Valley Drive in relation to a theft file. Although no connection was made to the above-noted theft, he was found in possession of identification that had been reported stolen from a Squamish storage locker a few months ago. A small amount of methamphetamine was found in his possession. The man faces charges of possession of stolen property and drug possession.
