Keep away from unstable riverbanks this Saturday

District of Squamish announces BC Hydro is planning spill release from the Cheakamus Dam.

The District of Squamish announced that BC Hydro is planning a spill release from the Cheakamus Dam on Saturday, June 4 at 1 p.m.

“Rapid increases in water levels in the following 24 hours are possible. There is the potential for top of riverbank flows,” reads the announcement from the District.

“It is recommended that you keep your distance from unstable riverbanks and stay off the rivers and waterways for at least 24 hours after the spilling begins.”

According to the District, BC Hydro is required to issue a spill notice when discharges are greater than 170 cubic metres per second.

Rapid increases in water levels in the following 24 hours are possible. There is the potential for top of riverbank flows.
