Kent will set himself ablaze on Feb. 13

Councillor says Squamish is ‘on fire’ as he officially announces stunt

It's official.

Squamish Councillor Peter Kent announced Tuesday he will make good on his campaign promise to set himself ablaze.

The stunt will take place on Friday, Feb. 13 at Loggers Sports Grounds on Loggers Lane at 6 p.m.

Kent said it is “a very exciting time” for Squamish to be on the world stage.

“We have so much going on in our beautiful town. We are quite literally on fire,” Kent told The Squamish Chief.

The newly elected Squamish councillor, a professional stuntman, promised in his campaign for council to set himself on fire if the Nov. 15 municipal voter turnout in Squamish was higher than it was in 2011 – 38.6 per cent.

The voter turnout was 47.13 per cent of eligible voters.

During the fiery event, expected to attract a large crowd, parking will be available at the Brennan Park complex up the street from the stunt location.

Kent, who operates a stunt school and was elected to council in November, was a Hollywood stuntman in Arnold Schwarzenegger films.
