Kite surf equipment stolen

Story:

A kite surfing enthusiast visiting the Squamish Spit was greeted with crime Tuesday (May 18) when his unattended equipment was stolen.

At 5 p.m., the owner reported he was kite surfing at the Spit and, after having some trouble in the wind, dropped his gear north of the site on the Spit. He then walked south to his vehicle and returned within 10 minutes to find his equipment had been stolen. The equipment consisting of a Windwing Rampage 2 kite, 12 metres long, orange and black in color and an Ocean Rodeo Mako 150 board, yellow and white in color are valued at $2,100.00 and the items are identifiable.

Vandals take down horse fence

On Thursday (May 13) police receive reports that over the weekend, suspects damaged a fence at a horse coral on Centennial Way. An axe was used to cut the wire off of the posts. The horses remained inside the insecure fence.

Truck rolls over

On Saturday (May 15) at 2:34 a.m., police attended to a roll over collision on Highway 99 north of Lions Bay. A five-ton International delivery vehicle had rolled over blocking the northbound lanes. The vehicle was towed and the 52-year-old driver was not injured in the collision. The driver was issued with a violation ticket.

Drunk driver arrested

On Saturday (May 15) at 7:41 p.m., complaints were received from two alert citizens of a vehicle traveling erratically northbound on Highway 99 near Clarke Drive. Both the reporting citizens felt the driver may be impaired. The vehicle was located on Perth Drive and the 42-year-old female driver displayed signs of impairment by alcohol.

Police seized an empty bottle of wine, two unopened bottles of wine and a used wine glass from the vehicle before it was towed.

The driver refused to comply with a breathalyzer demand, and was arrested and later released on a promise to appear for court on June 2 to face charges of impaired driving and refusal of a breath demand.

Vehicle stolen

On Monday (May 17) at 9:18 a.m., a resident reports his vehicle stolen from a private parking stall on Cleveland Avenue overnight.

A report was received later that day that a vehicle was located in the bush off of Bailey Avenue off of the CN Rail line. The vehicle will be fingerprinted and video surveillance of the area where it was stolen will be reviewed.
