Police are seeking the public's help in locating a man who allegedly threatened employees of a downtown retail outlet with a knife after being confronted about shoplifting inside the store.
The incident occurred last Thursday (Oct. 20) at around 2 p.m., at a store in the 1300 block of Pemberton Avenue, RCMP Sgt. Wayne Pride said in a statement. Store employees confronted the man about suspected shoplifting and he produced a knife before fleeing on foot.
Police are looking for a Caucasian male in his mid-20s with stocky build, short, brown hair and a goatee. If you have information please contact Squamish RCMP at (604) 892-6100 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
Equipment stolen
Police are also investigating the theft of equipment from a logging business along Squamish Valley Road. The theft was reported on Friday (Oct. 21). Stolen items included wires that were stripped from a building, radiators from some machinery and a welder. Together, the items an estimated value of $12,000.
Vehicles damaged
The RCMP received numerous reports of vehicles having been damaged overnight Friday-Saturday (Oct. 21 and 22) in the Garibaldi Estates area. One truck had its tires flattened and windshield smashed while parked along Tantalus Road. A car parked along Willow Crescent had its rear window smashed and another had a mirror torn off and a window scratched. Still another, in the 40000 block of Government Road, had its rear window smashed. No items were stolen from any of the vehicles.
Business robbed
On Sunday (Oct. 23) at around 9:40 p.m., police responded to an alarm at a business in the 38000 block of Cleveland Avenue. Police noted an unlocked rear door that thieves used to access the building, stealing more than $7,000 in cash, Pride said.
Man faces charges
On Sunday, police arrested a man in the 39000 block of Government Road after he allegedly threatened a woman who was known to him with violence. The 27-year-old man is also being charged with breach of probation as he was under court order not to have contact with the woman, Pride said.
Outboard motor stolen
Also on Sunday, officers received a report of a Mercury outboard boat motor having been stolen from a boat moored at the Lions Bay marina. The engine was valued at $6,000, Pride said. Police are examining video surveillance of the area.
