A career educator with extensive training in special education programs has been named assistant superintendent of the Sea to Sky School District (District 48).
Jody Langlois, who holds undergraduate and graduate degrees in special education, will start her new position on Aug. 1, District 48 officials announced in a statement issued on May 14. She replaces Ian Kent, who announced his retirement earlier this year.
Langlois has been a sessional lecturer in the Department of Counselling Psychology and Special Education at UBC for the past 10 years. She began her career as a classroom and resource/learning disabilities teacher in Stony Plain, Alta., then moved to West Vancouver to work as an intermediate classroom, learning disabilities and district resources teacher.
In 2012 she moved to the Vancouver School District, where she has served as Director of Instruction, Learning Services.
District 48 is still in the process of hiring for the position of secretary-treasurer, a post left vacant by the recent retirement of John Hetherington. Hetherington's replacement will report to district superintendent Dr. Lisa McCullough.
