Squamish RCMP are investigating the theft of two laptop computers, BlackBerry and other electronic items from a vehicle that was parked in the Shannon Falls parking lot.
The incident - the latest in a long string of thefts from vehicles parked in recreation-area lots over the past few months - was reported to police on Friday (Nov. 9), RCMP Sgt. Wayne Pride wrote in a statement.
No damage was done to the vehicle, which may have been left unlocked, Pride said. Stolen were a wallet containing personal ID and cards, a silver Macbook Pro 12 laptop computer, a BlackBerry with charger, a black Lenovo laptop computer with charger and assorted accessories, a GoPro camera and other items. The total value of the missing items is estimated at $2,500. The incident occurred Friday between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m., Pride said.
Wheels stolen
On Friday, police received a report of four wheels having been stolen off vehicle parked at a car dealership in the 1100 block of Hunter Place. The theft occurred between 2:15 and 3:40 a.m. No other vehicles were targeted, nor did any other damage occur.
Man arrested
On Friday, police received a report of an assault having occurred at a home in the 1000 block of Wilson Crescent in Dentville. At the scene, police arrested a 64-year-old Squamish man for allegedly assaulting his wife. During the course of the investigation, police also learned that the previous day, the man had assaulted both his wife and 17-year-old daughter, but that the earlier incident had not been reported.
Tent swiped
On Thursday (Nov. 8), police received a report of a construction trailer having been broken into in the 38000 block of Queens Way, sometime between midnight and 5:30 a.m. Stolen was a pop-up tent valued at around $2,000 and mountain bike accessories.
Drivers arrested
On Sunday (Nov. 11) at around 7:30 a.m., police attended the scene of a two-vehicle motor vehicle accident on Highway 99 near Daisy Lake Dam.
A black Infiniti that had been involved in the accident had been abandoned before police arrived. Witnesses told police that the man had fled into a nearby forest shortly after the crash. A police service dog was brought in, and police located the man as he walked out of the wooded area.
The driver of the second vehicle was not injured in the mishap, but extensive damage was done to both vehicles. A 20-year-old Vancouver man is being charged with failing to remain at the scene of an accident and dangerous driving. A 26-year-old Vancouver man is being charged with obstruction. The latter was initially arrested for impaired driving, but police later discovered that another man had, in fact, been driving.
The highway was closed for more than an hour while police investigated the incident.
