Every now and then I think council must be done silly spending. After all, what else could there be?
I forgot the signs – obviously they didn’t. Almost $1.5 million on signs.
That was not a typo – one million. I have talked to a lot of people and not once did I hear that everything is good, but the signage could be improved.
There is a list of needs and new signage was not on the list. I was not jolted out of sound sleep with the realization that what was lacking in this community was signs. These people try so hard to build statues to themselves that they forget why they were elected – to serve the taxpayers.
Our road resurfacing, lighting improvements, expanded library hours, dump, maybe put some paint on the municipal hall and the list goes on and on.
I have to join the dots and come to the conclusion the signs come before our necessary infrastructure upgrades, unlike the stuff that we are fed.
Another truism – when there is a budget shortfall to cover non-essential services the citizens will be given a choice of higher taxes or the loss of essential government services. Signs, really? Not on my list of things Squamish needs.
