On Friday (June 25) at 8 p.m., Squamish RCMP was called to control traffic on Highway 99 between Furry Creek and Britannia Beach while emergency crews transported an injured 42-year-old Valleycliffe resident to hospital by helicopter. Chris Hansen was climbing on Comic Rock, located a few metres off the highway, when an as-yet undetermined accident occurred relating to his gear, according to RCMP. Hansen was conscious upon transport, but died the following day in hospital.

Valleycliffe stabbing ends in arrest

On Saturday (June 26) at 1:09 a.m., police received a call of a stabbing near the dyke at the end of Cherry Drive in Valleycliffe. A witnesses stated a 29-year-old stabbing victim had been taken to hospital. A 28-year-old male suspect still on the scene was taken into custody and was also taken to hospital for treatment. The suspect has been remanded in custody to appear on July 5 in Provincial Court were he will answer to charges of assault with a weapon, aggravated assault and fail to comply with a probation order.

Driver refuses breathalyzer

On June 24 at 1:55 a.m., a member on patrol observed a blue Ford driving in the wrong lane on Tantalus Road. The vehicle was checked and the 22-year-old male driver displayed symptoms of impairment by alcohol. The driver was given a roadside screening and registered a fail. He was returned to the detachment and refused to supply breath samples. The driver was lodged in cells until sober and released on a promise to appear and will answer to impaired driving and refusal to supply breath samples when he appears in court.

Public drinker fined

On Sunday (June 27) at 1:55 a.m., a member on patrol observed a male near the walkway to the Grizzly Bar on Tantalus Road drinking from a liquor bottle. The 29-year-old was detained and issued with a violation ticket for consuming liquor in public.

Storage locker broken into

On Monday (June 28) police received a report of a break and enter to a storage locker on Queensway Avenue. Two mountain bikes were stolen when suspects cut off locks to gain entry. A Norco Rampage 7 and an orange Kona Coil Air Supreme were stolen, valued at $5,500. The matter is still under investigation.

Garage broken into

On Monday (June 28) members received a report that a garage at Viking Ridge had been broken into overnight and a mountain bike stolen. A Norco A-Line Mountain Bike, black and white in color and valued at $2,500 was stolen, still under investigation.
