Seven Squamish-based not-for-profit groups were among those that received money through the provincial government's community gaming grants program last week.

The grants, part of $33 million that went out to thousands of community groups across the province last week, were announced in a statement on March 3. The largest, for $33,750, went to the Squamish Volunteer Centre Society.

Other grants announced by the provincial government and Joan McIntyre, MLA for West Vancouver-Sea to Sky, included $22,500 for the Howe Sound Women's Centre Society, $21,100 for the Sea to Sky Community Services Society, $9,500 for the Fourth Squamish Scouts, $7,500 for the Rotary Club of Squamish, $6,250 for the Knights of Columbus Assembly No. 2458 and $2,500 for the Squamish-based 835 Griffin Air Cadets Squadron.

"I am very pleased to see that the government is recognizing the valuable contribution each of these organizations makes to our quality of life in B.C.," McIntyre said in a statement. "These grants should go some way in assisting each to provide service and support to their local communities."
